Tulle is a netting or fine mesh fabric. It can be constructed from various materials including silk, rayon, nylon or polyester. It is very lightweight and is starched to keep it crisp and firm. Tulle can be dyed in almost any color so your tutu can be as bright and colorful as you dare to make it! As well as tutus, tulle fabric is also used for making wedding veils… although it is probably too early to be thinking about that for your little ones yet!
The length of the tutu is determined by the length of tulle strips used, so if you want a longer princess dress, or a tutu of your own, then keep the strips of tulle long. Additionally, if you want a fuller skirt, tie too skirts and put one over the other. The options, as with any sewing project, are only limited by your imagination, creativity… and time.
